Monsters
Monster Species can be owned and trained by Residents who can be their companions, and battle partners. they act more like animals and have a similar mindset. Examples; dolphins, monkeys/apes, dogs, fish.
Monster Species in particular have a wide range of traits with different rarity that can either be obtained by in-game market purchases, adoptables, group activities (eg; raffles), or breeding.
Residents
Resident Species are basically in similar stature as humans, having intelligence, morality, consent and other forms of in-depth fundamentals. Resident species co-exist with humans on Illutheria and partake in similar activities; having an occupation, a house, needs and wants, etc.
They are able to own and train monsters!
