General Info
(Acks-Head)
Axeheads are thick-skinned creatures renowned for their bladed heads, capable of felling trees and shattering rocks. Their durability makes them invaluable as laborers for heavy tasks.
Legend has it that the Fire God forged Axeheads from molten rock, shaping their distinctive blade-like horns and imposing stature. Their tough hides and loyal nature make them popular mounts among Higara's inhabitants.
✦ Anatomy ✦
Anatomy
Axeheads are large creatures with leathery, smooth skin and some individuals possess bulky, plated bellies resembling those of beetles. A distinctive feature is their blade-like horn, extending from the nose to the chin, forming an axe-shaped structure. Their ears are unique, resembling half-dishes with three inner rings, granting them exceptional hearing. To shield their eyes from dust and ash, Axeheads have hard, skin-like eyelashes instead of hair. Their eyesight is generally average to poor.
Primarily herbivorous, Axeheads possess incisors and molars for grinding plant matter. Their feet and elbow joints are cushioned with soft, gelatinous padding encased in a sturdy outer layer, giving them a high-heeled appearance. An air sac located at the base of their neck, connecting to the chest, is believed to amplify their calls. Axeheads are roughly the size of a draft horse or cow.
✦ Head Shapes ✦
Head shapes
Axeheads exhibit a wide range of physical variations. Their heads can be blocky, rounded like an egg, or possess a distinct dip for added character. Lip shapes vary, including blocky, jagged, or beak-like formations. Some Axeheads develop mane-like structures similar to horses, which can be styled as desired.
Eyelashes are a mandatory feature and can take on various shapes and sizes. Given their tough environment, Axeheads often bear scars, wrinkles, chipped horns, and other physical imperfections, reflecting their resilience and history of potential battles.
✦ Behaviour ✦
Behaviour
Axeheads are naturally aggressive and temperamental, though selective breeding has produced individuals capable of working harmoniously with other species, including humans. Given their immense strength, close supervision is essential when children are around Axeheads, including young ones.
Despite their reputation for strength and temper, Axeheads are fiercely loyal and dedicated companions. Their versatility has led to widespread employment as bodyguards, miners, alchemists, meditation partners, and in other labor-intensive roles.
Axeheads have limited vocal abilities, primarily relying on grunts and snorts for communication. Occasional hoots or yells may be emitted when provoked or defending territory. A calm and quiet Axehead is a strong indicator of trust and respect.
Understanding Axehead body language is crucial. Subtle cues like tapping a foot or flicking an ear can signal impending aggression. If these warnings are ignored, the Axehead may escalate to louder grumbling and charging.
